Weekly Traffic Report: June 21 - 27

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.  

LaSalle Causeway  

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise users that the LaSalle Causeway will be fully closed to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians until further notice.   

Road Closures   

  • Albert Street – Princess to 486 Albert – closed until Dec. 31 to accommodate construction activity and staging at 484 Albert St. 
  • Baiden Street – Mowat to McDonald – closed until July 1 to accommodate construction activity on Baiden Street. 
  • Cataraqui Woods Drive – Sydenham to Centennial – closed June 24 to 25 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for a contractor to apply surface asphalt. 
  • Campbell Cres – Richardson to 7 Campbell – closed June 24 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to facilitate watermain relining by Utilities Kingston. 
  • Hillcrest Ave – Kingscourt to Seventh - closed until Sept. 1 for buried infrastructure replacement. Road will be open to local traffic. 
  • King Street – Place D’Armes to North End of King – closed until Sept. 30 for the construction of new storm and road bed. Road will be open to local traffic. 
  • Market Street – Ontario to King – closed June 21 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for National Indigenous Peoples Day event at Springer Market Square. 
  • Princess Street – Division to Ontario – closed June 22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the Princess Street Promenade. Please note the intersections of Princess at Barrie, Princess at Bagot and Princess at Ontario will remain open throughout the event. 
  • Sydenham Street – Princess to Queen – closed until Sept. 27 for Downtown Kingston BIA Activations. 
  • Union Street – Gardiner to Sir John A MacDonald – closed June 23 from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a gas main installation. 
  • University Avenue – Union to Earl – closed until July 31 for the removal of debris from demolition and concrete deliveries at the Queen’s John Deutsch University Centre project.  

Kingston Kids Triathlon 

Please note that the following streets will be closed on June 22 from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Kingston Kids Triathlon: 

  • Concession Street from Alfred to Nelson 
  • Alfred Street from Concession to York 
  • York Street from Nelson to Alfred 
  • Nelson Street from Concession to York 

Parking Disruption  

The Hanson Memorial Parking Structure Restoration project is now underway. The work will take place throughout all levels of the building, and will include efforts such as routine structural maintenance, repainting, replacement of waterproofing materials, and upgrades to the building mechanical/electrical systems. The work is planned to begin the first week of February 2024 and conclude in late December 2024.   

The work will be completed in phases to allow the building to remain open to public parking for the duration of the project. It is anticipated that no more than 50% of the available 271 parking spaces will be closed at any time. There is also parking availability at the Chown Memorial and Robert Bruce Memorial parking garages in the two adjacent blocks to the west.  

Other Delays  

  • Gardiners Road – at Centennial/Creekford – expect delays while a contractor completes intersection widening, traffic signal upgrades and cycling and pedestrian improvements. 
  • Hudson Drive – at Bayridge Public School – expect delays until Jun. 28 as a contractor will be on site to complete upgrades to the school crossing. 
  • Hudson Drive – at Hudson Park – expect delays until Jun. 28 as a contractor will be on site to complete upgrades to the bus stop and pedestrian crossing. 
  • Highway 2 – Abbey Dawn to St. Lawrence – expect a lane closure to complete enhanced flood protection of Abbey Dawn Road, Highway 2, and St. Lawrence Avenue. The lane closure will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. For project details please visit Get Involved Kingston
  • Pine Grove Road – Hwy 15 to Boundary – expect delays June 24 to 28 as contractor will be completing surface treatment. 
  • Queen Street – Montreal to Sydenham – expect a westbound lane closure on June 24 to accommodate construction activity. Detours will be in place for the duration of the lane closure. 
  • Seabrooke Road – Hwy 15 to Big Hill – expect delays June 24 to 28 as contractor will be completing surface treatment.
