Utilities Kingston earns top scores on safety excellence and leadership

Utilities Kingston has been recognized for its ongoing commitment to community and workplace safety, earning two safety awards and receiving top scores in a recent industry-wide safety survey.

Utilities Kingston received the Silver Award from Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Canada for its exceptional efforts in contractor safety management and its commitment to promoting safety across the organization at the annual OHS Honours event. This year’s submission highlighted the company’s initiatives, including its Safety Days event, hazard and risk assessments, and workplace inspection management accountabilities processes, along with its comprehensive health and safety programs.

In addition, Karen Bell, a Health and Safety Coordinator at Utilities Kingston, was named among the Top 25 Under 40 by OHS Canada for her leadership in advancing health and safety practices. Bell’s innovative approach and commitment to safety excellence have positioned her as a rising star in the industry, making a significant impact on workplace culture and safety performance at Utilities Kingston.

“These awards demonstrate our dedication to safeguarding both our employees and the community we serve,” said David Fell, President and Chief Executive Officer, Utilities Kingston. “We’re committed to continually improving our safety practices and working together to ensure that our employees go home safe every day and that our customers can trust in the reliability and safety of their services.”

Utilities Kingston also earned top marks in the 2024 Public Safety Survey, an awareness survey conducted every two years and required by the Ontario Energy Board. The survey, which measures public perception of safety in the utility sector, revealed that Utilities Kingston scored an impressive 84 per cent, a two per cent increase compared to 2022.

“Safety is deeply rooted in everything we do, and these results reflect the real impact of our team’s hard work and dedication in keeping both our community and workplace safe,” Fell added.

These recognitions further solidify Utilities Kingston's role as a leader in safety and reliability. The company remains committed to prioritizing safety initiatives and building on this momentum in the years to come.
