Put batteries out for collection April 28 – May 2

Let us pick up your batteries – free of charge!

Put your single-use household batteries out for collection in a clear, sealed plastic bag alongside your curbside waste on your normal collection day during the week of April 28 – May 2.

“Batteries should never be put in the garbage due to their toxic contexts. With spring-cleaning season upon us, we encourage you to properly dispose of dead single-use batteries as you get your home ready for spring and summer,” says Kayla Stratford, Supervisor, Solid Waste Disposal.

Place your bag of batteries on the ground beside your recycling box or next to another curbside waste container where it can be easily seen by a collector.

Car, tool, and other types of large batteries will not be collected. These will need to be brought to the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot at 196 Lappan’s Ln., which is open April to November on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents can also drop off small household batteries anytime at one of these locations:

  • City Hall, 216 Ontario St.
  • INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd.
  • Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC), 196 Lappan’s Ln.
  • Find a list of additional drop-off locations at www.rawmaterials.com or www.call2recycle.ca.

The battery collection is in partnership with E360 Solutions.
