Introducing a new pilot Rural Community Program Fund, five allotments of up to $5,000 each in funding for rural events and initiatives

Great things are coming to rural Kingston! A new Rural Community Program Fund launches today and provides five successful applicants with up to $5,000 to support creative and impactful projects that build community spirit and attract visitors to rural neighbourhoods.

The Rural Community Program Fund is an opportunity for rural community groups, special event organizers, volunteer organizations and business partnerships to secure funding that supports their project.

“There is so much opportunity to showcase the beauty and spirit of Kingston’s rural areas, whether it’s by strengthening current resident’s connection to the community around them or creating more destinations for visitors to experience,” said Tracey Snow, Manager, Rural Economic & Community Development. “The Rural Community Program Fund is a wonderful way to help further enrich these communities by supporting impactful projects.”

Eligible projects include new or enhanced rural-based events such as concerts or festivals; recreational activities like cycling routes and nature walks; cultural initiatives like art shows and performances; community beautification projects; and tourism projects that create new visitor experiences.

The application period closes on April 21. Applications will be assessed by City staff and the Rural Economic and Community Working Group based on criteria of community impact, financial feasibility, opportunity for collaboration, and tourism potential.
