Help shape the future of accessibility in the City of Kingston
We’re planning for accessibility – join the conversation.
As the City of Kingston prepares to update its Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (MYAP), residents are invited to share their ideas and perspectives to help shape a more welcoming, inclusive community.
The MYAP is the guiding document for the City to help eliminate barriers to accessibility, as required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This plan covers City facilities, services, and public spaces but does not include private properties or businesses.
The current plan will end in 2025. The City is conducting a thorough review to update it, building on past successes in meeting legal requirements and striving to make municipal services and facilities more accessible and inclusive.
The review process involves collecting feedback from City staff, the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC), and the public, especially from individuals with disabilities.
The first phase of public engagement runs through March 9. Residents can share their ideas and fill out a brief survey, with the chance to apply for a one-on-one interview to provide more in-depth feedback from those with lived experiences.
“This is a chance to rethink how our services, programs and facilities serve the community,” says Deputy Clerk Derek Ochej. “By sharing your input, you can help create a city where everyone can succeed. We need our residents’ voices to guide this effort.”
