City adjusting parking rates to support infrastructure and accessibility
Effective April 1, 2025, municipal parking rates will increase to ensure the City’s parking system remains sustainable and capable of meeting future demands. These changes were approved by City Council at its February 18, 2025, meeting.
Key updates:
- On-street parking across the City, and parking in downtown and Williamsville lots and garages, will increase by $0.50 per hour
- Event parking will increase by $1
- Overnight and weekend parking will increase by $1 or $1.25 in select lots and garages

“These adjustments will help keep parking spaces available for everyone while ensuring the sustainability of our parking system,” said Kyle Compeau, Director, Licensing and Enforcement. “We continue to align rates with demand which allows us to make better use of parking garages, especially during peak events, and address stakeholder concerns.”
The City’s parking system is self-sustaining, meaning parking fees directly fund maintenance, technology and potential future infrastructure improvements. The last rate adjustments were in 2018 and 2019, and since then, the City has invested over $7.5 million in refurbishing three parking garages, with future improvements and security enhancements being planned.
The changes are projected to generate $1.32 million in revenue in 2025, ensuring continued investment in infrastructure and supporting financial sustainability.
The updates are based on a recent parking rate review, which included input from the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee.
Accessible parking updates
As part of this update, paid accessible parking rates will decrease to $1 per hour. To ensure these spaces remain available for those who need them, fines for unauthorized use will increase from $300 to $400, pending approval from the Ministry of the Attorney General.
Additional adjustments to parking fines will be introduced, with more details to be shared soon.
