Centennial Family Physicians awarded City Clinic Grant to fund vital upgrades to its existing clinical space

Team members of Centennial Family Physicians gathered in the clinic around a large City of Kingston cheque for $30,523.55.

Kingston city councillors recently presented Centennial Family Physicians with a $30,523.55 cheque through the City Primary Care Clinic Grant. Grant funds will be used to complete essential renovations to create extra clinical space for a future practice. In addition, the clinic will purchase medical equipment and expand its technological capabilities to offset start-up costs associated with establishing a practice.

“In family medicine, there is so much preparation, investment and effort needed before the providers can even begin to do the work that really matters,” says Dr. Lou Battel. “This funding from the City of Kingston has helped us at Centennial Family Physicians to accomplish this preparation and to arrive earlier and with fewer distractions at the point where we are meeting with more people and providing services they need.”

“It’s great to see the many different ways that the Primary Care Clinic Grant is being put to use,” says Craig Desjardins, Director, Office of Strategy, Innovation & Partnerships. “This grant was made possible thanks to the support of Mayor and Council and every tool we can utilize will bring us that much closer to ensuring every Kingston resident has access to primary care.”

Centennial Family Physicians is part of the Kingston Family Health Team (KFHT). The KFHT includes multidisciplinary health professionals who provide primary care to people in Kingston and the surrounding areas.

The City of Kingston Primary Care Clinic Expansion Grant is a dedicated initiative funded entirely by the municipality to increase access to primary care for unattached patients. Clinic recipients will receive a one-time financial incentive of up to $100,000 to broaden their services through the innovative use of technology, expansion of administrative support to address the paperwork burden, and the addition of allied healthcare professionals to the primary care clinic setting.

Recipients of this fund will continue to be highlighted over the coming weeks. Residents are also encouraged to follow along with the City’s physician recruitment efforts, including the Primary Care Grant, by visiting CityofKingston.ca/PhysicianRecruitment.

The City of Kingston acknowledges that we are on the traditional homeland of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and the Huron-Wendat, and thanks these nations for their care and stewardship over this shared land.
