Garbage Bag Tags
We collect one untagged bag or container of garbage each week from households. If you have more than that, you will need to buy bag tags to go on extra garbage bags or containers.
Garbage bag tags are stickers that you put on your garbage bags to ensure that the bags or containers are picked up by our collectors. We will collect any number of garbage bags and containers if they have a bag tag on them.
Where to buy bag tags
Canada Post mail could be disrupted as of Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, impacting the purchase of garbage tags online. Please visit one of the City’s bag tag sales locations for in-person purchases.
You can purchase bag tags online in sets of four, each bag tag is $2, so minimum online order for one set of four is $8.
Note: All online orders are also subject to a small $1.50 shipping and handling fee.
In-person purchasing locations
You can also buy bag tags in person from many local businesses across the city. Use the map and search bar below to help you find a retailer in your area.
It can be helpful to call ahead to confirm tags are in stock and that they accept your preferred payment method
Medical exemption
If you need to regularly put out extra bags of garbage due to medical reasons, you can apply for a bag tag medical exemption. A note by a medical services provider (doctor, nurse, PSW etc.) stating the need for a medical exemption must be provided.
