Motor vehicle incident response rates
Motor vehicle incident response rates are HST exempt. The first hour or part thereof corresponds to the current Fire Response Highway Dependent Rate per apparatus, as defined by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO); plus, each extra half hour when applicable. For more information, review the Invoices for highway collisions page, in the Government of Ontario's website.
Each vehicle involved in the motor vehicle incident should cover equal parts of the total cost of the apparatus response rate. In this case, the "apparatus response rate" refers to the cost of deploying Kingston Fire and Rescue emergency vehicles to the scene of an incident. For example, if two vehicles are involved in the incident, the total cost of all responding apparatus (the emergency vehicles) is split between those two vehicles.
When a motor vehicle incident occurs, and the vehicle(s) is not registered to a City of Kingston address, incident response rates will apply for their portion of the response rate.
When a motor vehicle incident occurs, and the vehicle(s) is registered to a City of Kingston address, incident response rates will not apply for their portion of the response rate as their portion of the response rate is covered under the City of Kingston municipal taxes.
Invoice fees for motor vehicle incident responses are covered under third party liability insurance. Your auto insurance policy may reimburse fees for emergency response services when the aim of the service is to prevent or fight a vehicle fire or assist at a motor vehicle collision, whether you are responsible for the incident or not.
