Other Committees and Boards

In addition to our committees of Council, there are several outside agencies on which Council members sit to allow for collaboration between the City and other community organizations.

This committee  selects the recipients of the Civic Awards.

A Conservation Authority is managed by board members appointed by the municipalities within its jurisdiction. It is the board members’ responsibility to represent the views of the citizens within their respective municipalities.

The Downtown Kingston! Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 700 business and property owners located in the core commercial area of the City of Kingston. The organization is managed by an elected volunteer Board of Management.

The Kingston & Frontenac Housing Corporation (KFHC) Board oversees the governance of Kingston & Frontenac Housing Corporation which operates social, affordable, and market housing and administers the rent supplement program on behalf of the City of Kingston and County of Frontenac.

Kingston Access Services (KAS) is an incorporated non-profit, registered charitable organization operated as an external agency to the City of Kingston. The main responsibility of the KAS Board is setting direction and establishing policies to maintain and promote continuous improvement in providing specialized public transit within KAS service territory.

The Kingston Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors is a forward-thinking governance body which provides progressive leadership management to support and advance the organization. The Board provides fiduciary oversight for the Corporation’s budget which includes investment from three levels of government and private funding

The Kingston Frontenac Public Library Board is the legal authority of the Library and exists to direct the vision and mission of the Library. The Board routinely participates in engagement and educational activities to ensure a proactive response to community needs and advocates for adequate funding to support the organization's guiding principles and strategic goals.

In Ontario a police service board is a local board pursuant to the Municipal Act, but it receives its authority from the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA). The CSPA directs that every municipality maintaining a police force must have a police service board to ensure that adequate and effective policing is provided. The Kingston Police Service Board provides civilian governance for Kingston Police.

The Board of Health functions under legal authority of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and is responsible for ensuring KFL&A Public Health meets the mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines for public health programs and services in specified areas.

The Rideau Corridor Landscape Strategy Steering Committee works collaboratively to protect and promote the Rideau Canal through a comprehensive land use planning and management framework.

The Rural/Urban Liaison Advisory Committee was created by the Minister of Municipal Affairs under the Municipal Act. The Committee meets to talk about problems from agreements they share and suggests solutions to things they both care about.

The Board of Directors are a group of voluntary members of the Kingston community working together to provide strategic leadership, direction, and long-term planning for Sustainable Kingston.

The Kingston and Area Taxi Commission (KATC) is an independent body operating under its own statute which provides for the licensing, regulating, and governing of the brokers, owners, and drivers of taxi cabs in the City of Kingston and Loyalist Township.

The Tourism Kingston members of the Board of Directors help decide what's best for the organization's future by following good, ethical, and legal rules for management and money. They also make sure the organization has enough resources to make its vision come true.
