Community Ice Rink Volunteer

As a Community Ice Rink Volunteer, you'll help maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable rink for all. Volunteers will receive training on key responsibilities, including building and ice surface maintenance, health and safety procedures, and adherence to City guidelines. Join a dedicated team to support this valued community resource!

Key duties and responsibilities

  • General maintenance:
    • Follow procedures outlined in the Community Outdoor Rink Manual established by the City
    • Perform daily flooding, cleaning and maintain the ice surface to ensure safe and smooth skating conditions
    • Store all equipment in a heated and secure space when not in use
    • Manage and clean up garbage and litter around the rink area
    • Maintain an open and accessible emergency access route at all times
    • Return all tools and equipment loaned by the City in good condition
  • Volunteer team management:
    • Ensure ongoing commitment and coordination of volunteer team(s) to support rink operations
    • Ensure the rink is available for use by all members of the community
    • Notify the City promptly of any changes to the volunteer team or contact information
  • Record keeping: complete and submit a daily log sheet for each day of the rink season on a weekly basis

Other requirements

  • Complete training that the City will provide about:
    • Building and maintaining ice surface
    • Inspection process
    • Managing risk (health and safety procedures, incident report)
  • Obtain the required insurance fee annually for each year of operation (we will provide details during the informational training)
