Noise Bylaw

To ensure safe and enjoyable neighbourhoods for residents our Noise Bylaw, places some limits of noise in residential areas. 

Activities that are always prohibited 

• Playing amplified music or sound from speakers or devices at any time in residential areas. 
• Engaging in construction or use of construction equipment on Sundays and holidays. 
• Allowing persistent noisemaking by household pets. 

Activities that are prohibited during designated times 

• Playing musical instruments is prohibited from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. and before 9 a.m. on Sundays. 
• Construction activity is prohibited from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and on Sundays and holidays. 
• Loading, unloading, and handling materials is prohibited from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and on Sundays and holidays, unless necessary for essential services or moving household effects. 

Report an infraction 

To report noise infractions during our business hours, call 613-546-4291 ext. 3135 or email at bylawenforcement@cityofkingston.ca. To report noise infractions outside of business hours, contact the Kingston Police non-emergency line at 613-549-4660. 

Noise exemption application 

Create a MyKingston account to easily request a noise exemption. Submit your application at least eight weeks before the requested exemption date. This allows time for Council reporting and processing by staff. 

You are required to pay a $100 to $347.80 application fee as stated in the Fees and Charges Bylaw. 

Nuisance party bylaw 

The Nuisance Party Bylaw allows the police and bylaw officers to address the negative effects of disturbing behaviour caused by large social gatherings in local neighbourhoods.
