Skating and Hockey Programs

We offer numerous year-round skating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.as well as ice-sport programs, such as shinny, and public skating sessions. 

Limited drop-in spaces available. Pre-register to guarantee your spot in our recreation portal.      

Regular drop-in fees apply to non-members. Some skating programs are included in Fit Pass memberships. Get more information about memberships and fees.

Recreational skating

Skating programs are available for everyone. Before you go skating, be sure to check the date because the program schedules can change. Check our full skating schedule

Skating for young children accompanied by responsible adults. Strollers, sleds and skate assists are not permitted on the ice. 

Join us for music, camaraderie and some great exercise! Skaters of all skill levels are welcome, whether you are experienced or just starting out.

Shinny hockey

We offer recreational pick up hockey games for various age groups.

Adult and youth or child supervised shinny 

    • For adults aged 18 and older, full hockey gear is mandatory. Wearing a CSA-approved full-face mask is highly recommended.  
    • Youth supervised shinny requires full hockey gear, including a CSA-approved helmet with a full-face mask, gloves, and a neck protector. 
    •  Shinny participants will receive a wristband for payment verification, which they must wear. We may request proof of age during purchase. 
    • Please be aware that no on-ice monitoring or refereeing is provided for adult shinny  
    • For all City-operated Shinny Hockey programs, there is a maximum limit of 20 skaters and two goalies. 
    • During adult shinny, please self-monitor your shifts to a maximum of three to four minutes to ensure fair play. 
    • Ice Monitors will form teams based on equal skill, oversee the game, and encourage teamwork during youth or child supervised shinny. 

Parent and tot stick and puck (ages two to six) 

Full hockey equipment is required for tots including CSA approved hockey helmet and protective screen. Consider throat and neck guards for extra safety.  

Adults participating in this program must wear a protective helmet. This program is not intended to host teams. Please bring your own soft rubber/plastic puck.

Youth shinny hockey (ages seven to twelve) 

Here is a chance for youth in full hockey gear to have a friendly pickup hockey game. Our on-ice staff will organize teams with similar skill levels, officiate the game, and promote teamwork. 

Important:  

Youth shinny players must pre-register online, starting 48 hours (about two days) before the scheduled start time. The roster is limited to 20 skaters. Goalies can also register online for free, but we allow a maximum of two goalies. Goalies must show their goalie pads at the front desk.
