Applying for a Committee or Board

Council usually appoints people to the various committees and boards in the fall. However, you can express your interest by applying at any time. We keep your application on file for the next time a position becomes available.

Eligibility criteria 

• 18 years of age or older, unless applying for a youth representative position open to ages 15-24 
• a resident or business owner in Kingston 
• a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada 

Note: A “Permanent Resident” refers to a person who has been given permanent resident status by immigration to Canada but is not a Canadian Citizen. You must have lived in Kingston for at least one year to be eligible. 

Nomination process 

Remember that you can apply any time and we will hold your application until a position opens on the committee or board you are interested in. 

1. 1. Submit your application using our online form (button below) 
   2. The Nominations Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to Council 
   3. Council approves the recommendations 
   4. If your application is approved, you will be contacted by City staff 

Voluntary diversity information

We want our committees and boards to reflect the diversity of Kingston. 

To help us meet this goal, we encourage you to fill out our voluntary diversity questionnaire included in your application. Your personal information will be kept confidential. The Nominations Committee uses this information to help make their appointment recommendations to Council. The Clerk’s Office may also summarize the voluntary diversity data to help us determine if we are meeting our goals with respect to increasing representation from equity deserving groups.
